Job & Employment Resources

Online resources and wisdom that will help guide you correctly back into society!

Please visit the "where to begin" page to create a resume and cover letter. This is a much needed tool for any job. Starting your own business may be the route you need to take. I've opened three since getting out of prison and so could you. It's easier than you think!

Having solid references is very importantBefore locking down an interview, be sure to have your resume complete along with a cover letter. It is wise to have 4 solid references for the application. Your minister, ex-employer & any business friends are great people for references. I cannot over emphasize the importance of having solid references.

Ex-offenders need a lot of leverage to lock down a great career, and competition is strong. Mock interview with someone, and read all material found on the where to begin page. Reality is; you have a criminal record and you need to have the right tools to beat your competition. These right tools include: personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a spit shinned resume, college degree or on-line certificate, solid references, dynamic interview techniques, and a positive attitude. If you have these tools wrapped up into one package, the job is yours.

Meditate on Psalms 20 and pay particular attention to "the desires of your heart." What is yours?

Reality is; you have a criminal record and you need to have the right tools to beat your competition.

As an ex-offender, you can provide your employer some benefits for hiring you such as: The work opportunity tax credit. This provides federal income tax credit to employers who hire former prisoners. This business incentive can substantially reduce an employer’s federal income tax liability.

The workforce investment act (WIA) Reimburses businesses and employer’s for on-the-job-training, resulting in cost savings and broader workforce of skilled employees. Federal fidelity bonding program. Gives individuals fidelity bonds of $5000 to employers at no cost, helping protect them from both theft and dishonesty.

If the employer or business that you’re interviewing with does not know about these benefits, the second interview is a great time to let them know. This may be the deciding factor for them to choose you and not the other candidates who have no criminal record.
